Family photo Session Guide

Hi! I'm so excited that you decided to book a family session with me! Here is a guide I created to help you look your best and feel prepared as you go into your session.

First off, I like to think that I'm a little bit more unconventional than most family photographers. During your session, I'm going to ask you to do things that might sound a little silly. I'm going to give you prompts, ask you silly questions and let you interact with your family in a way that feels natural and true to who you are. Especially if you have small kids, expect to let them play and run!

Perfectly posed and smiling photos are great, don't get me wrong! But along with those photos, I like to approach my sessions with a documentary style that can capture the small quirks and personalities that are unique to you and your family.

So what are we gonna wear?!

I highly encourage my families not to try to match outfits or colors to a tee. Matching exact colors tend to make everything blend together. Instead, pick 2-4 different colors and try to evenly disperse them across your whole family.

Below are some color palettes that might help you with your decision.

Now that you've chosen your colors, here are a few outfit ideas!

For the ladies - Flowy, long skirts and dresses, solid colored pants with a blouse, long sweaters, long boots

For the men - Sweaters with solid color pants and a belt, flannels, jean jackets, collared shirts, vests with long sleeve shirt, button up shirt, sports coats

For the girls - Flowy skirts or dresses, headbands or bows, jean jacket or vest with leggings, long boots

For the boys - Flannels, overalls, collared tees, sweaters with jeans, baseball tee with long sleeves, button up shirt

And lastly, try mixing and matching patterns. Have one or two people wearing solid colors, another wearing stripes, etc
